MAY/JUNE
Through an invitation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Colombia, a YOA Chamber Orchestra will perform in Medellín, Colombia on June 1, 2008. This concert opens the Annual General Assembly of the Organization of American States and celebrates the 60th Anniversary of the signing of the charter of OAS. Following this, YOA Chamber Orchestra is Orchestra in Residence at the Alfredo de Saint Malo Festival of Panamá in early June ~ Paquito D’Rivera, soloist. Finally, the May/June chamber tour concludes with a series of concerts in São Paolo & Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, under the baton of rising Brazilian conductor and YOA Music Advisor, Marcelo Lehninger.
JULY/AUGUST
Principal Conductors Carlos Miguel Prieto and Gustavo Dudamel will lead YOA Full Orchestra Tour of Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Venezuela, & Ecuador, featuring symphonic concerts in Latin Americas’ best halls, community outreach and free concerts in underserved communities, and concertos with Antonio Meneses and Nelson Freire, among others.
NOVEMBER
Following its acclaimed 2006 performance of the Verdi Requiem in Munich with EuropaChorAkademie under the baton of Plácido Domingo, YOA has been invited to perform a High Mass for choir and orchestra at Saint Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican on November 26, 2008. This will be the first of four programs of the VII Festival Internazionale di Musica e Arte Sacra. The Festival concerts take place in the four main basilicas of Rome (Saint Peter’s, Saint John Lateran, Santa Maria Maggiore, Saint Peter outside the Walls).
